What to Consider When Buying a Seiko Chronograph

Movement type — solar vs quartz: Every chronograph in this collection runs on solar or standard quartz. Solar charges from any light source and never needs a battery; standard quartz needs a battery swap every 2–3 years but costs less up front. There are no automatic chronographs in this collection — for mechanical chronos, see all chronograph watches.

Water resistance: Prospex Speedtimer and Save The Ocean models are rated to 200m and suit swimming, snorkelling, and recreational diving. Conceptual and Coutura references are typically 100m — fine for showers, rain, and pool swimming, but not scuba.

Case size and wrist fit: Seiko chronographs run 39mm to 45mm. The Conceptual SSB references sit around 42mm and wear true to size. Prospex Speedtimer cases run 39–41mm and wear smaller than spec because of short lugs. Check the lug-to-lug measurement on each product page before you commit.
